Identifying and Understanding Workplace Stress
Stress auditing
It is a basic and important requirement for organisations to comply with their legal duty to protect employees from the negative effects of stress. But how do you do this if you don’t know what the stress risks are that your staff face?
We can help you understand the stress risks within your organisation. To do this, we use the Robertson Cooper stress risk questionnaire, ASSET. It was developed to meet a growing need for a short, psychometric risk assessment instrument.
Using ASSET we identify sources of pressures and evaluate the impact of stress on the health and commitment levels.
A key feature of ASSET is the extensive normative database. We can interpret stress risks compared to the rest of the national population, and to specific sector groups. This gives you the opportunity to look at your results and know where you stand relative to other organisations in the country and against other organisations in your sector.
The output from ASSET is a detailed report identifying sources of pressure and health and commitment issues.
We would then make recommendations about how to tackle specific stressors or how best to make your employees more resilient.

Individual stress screening
Many of our blue chip clients are exploring the value that an individual stress profile can give to an employee.
ASSET is as effective with individuals as with organisations. Individual stress screening means that you can complete ASSET for yourself and receive a personalised feedback report identifying your personal stress levels and sources of pressure. The Beacons Audit
This is a top level review of what your organisation is currently doing to prevent stress. We base the Beacons audit on the Health and Safety Executive model of best practice. This audit is high level review and looks at all the evidence about attitudes towards stress, the extent of stress auditing procedures, existing stress prevention activity and the quality of the stress policy. We talk to senior managers and employees at the coal face to find out if the espoused values are put into practice.
The output of this audit is a detailed report structured around the beacons best practice model. Where we find gaps in your approach we make recommendations; we help you focus at the strategic level to deliver an effective, practical stress prevention programme.
An organisational audit at this level fulfils the HSE requirements to scrutinise policy.
